Initial designs are created by molding wax to desired shapes.
Several completed wax designs are "connected" together at a wax base for economy.
The wax art is submerged in plaster to make a reverse mold of the image. Wait for the cast to harden.
Place the plaster mold in an oven to "bake" the wax images away leaving a hollow or reverse mold. This is a "lost wax casting" from the original images.
Heat up desired metal to melting point.
The molten metal is poured into the plaster casting. A centrifuge is used to force the metal into the reverse molds at high speed
Cool the casting block in water to room temperature. The water softens the plaster making it easy to break it apart to extract the metal molds.
Wash away the plaster from the metal molds.
Examples of several pieces of metal works of art after plaster has been removed, but before they have been separated.
-
Separate the individual pieces and file away the connecting trunk.
Polish pieces in a tumbler.
Add back stones according to placements in original wax design.
